I am indebted to Mr. George Clinch….

Trawling through my tomes of notes yesterday on St. Giles history, I came upon George Clinch’s writings again and an obscure yet more accurate depiction of the Rookery dwellings. This is more like it. Other drawings seem tame and somewhat cleaned up in comparison to this: if you read the writings on the notoriety of the The Holy Land in the 19th century and then look at the more well known drawings, it just doesn’t equate with the alarming descriptions of it.
